Dementia Awareness Session
May 19 @ 11:45 am - 1:00 pm
Our next regularly scheduled program is this Thursday, May 19th. This is an in-person luncheon meeting on the campus of Christmount Assembly at 11:45am.
Given that May has been designated as Mental Health Awareness Month, we have scheduled an informative, topical, and most interesting program. Kitty Hancock, Community Educator, with the Dementia Friendly WNC organization, will be in to discuss the prevalence of dementia in our community, how to recognize it, and how to communicate and interact with people experiencing dementia. Kitty, a volunteer, is a retired master’s prepared nurse educator who has spent a career teaching medical staff about geriatrics and mental health. Her last position was with the Charles George Medical Center. Kitty will be accompanied by Denise Baker, who will assist with her presentation.
Also, let’s welcome Lorena Russell of Dementia Friendly WNC, who will be taking some pictures during Kitty’s presentation to the Black Mountain–Swannannoa Kiwanis Club for their website.
This promises to be an important and relevant discussion for our entire community. Let’s turn out and give Kitty and her group a big Kiwanis welcome.
